Health Professions High School (HPHS) opened fall 2005 with 150 freshmen interested in pursuing healthcare as a career. The mission of our school is “to provide students with an outstanding education, rich with relevant academic, application and leadership experiences - using healthcare as a theme. It is our goal that HPHS graduates will succeed as highly adaptable professionals due to their exceptional skills, diverse assets and excellent habits of mind.

We currently have 400 9-11th grade students in our new 17 million dollar facility. We will add a new freshmen class each year and reach our maximum occupancy of 500 students in one school years.

Unique features of the campus include:

  • State of the Art Science Laboratories
  • Healthcare Reference Library
  • Gym/Multi-purpose room and outdoor courts and soccer field
  • 100% of classrooms are connected to the Internet.

HPHS provides an intensive medical and health professional preparation program and excellent, college prep-environment to all students.

  • We are open to all students in the Sacramento Region - including those outside of the Sacramento City Unified School District.
  • Our curriculum integrates healthcare themes throughout all classes - the students present their knowledge twice per year at large presentation events.
  • We have received financial support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, James Irvine Foundation, the Healthy Community Forum, NCHSTE, Career and Technical Education at SCUSD and the Los Rios Community College District.
Students study a rigorous, standards-based education that exceeds the University of California a-g requirement list. The course sequence is an “Early College” model; meaning students will begin collegiate coursework while in high school. In addition to rigorous academics, students may participate in Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) leadership training and activities as well as extensive workplace learning with our healthcare partners.
